Chongqing's 'Yu Xiaojian' AI Assistant Now in 233 Hospitals

Chongqing has officially rolled out 'Yu Xiaojian', an AI-powered medical assistant designed to make healthcare more convenient for residents. Starting July 17, citizens can access the service via Alipay or the Afu app to get help with everything from finding the right department to understanding lab results.

Developed jointly by the Chongqing Municipal Health Commission, the Big Data Bureau, and Ant Group, 'Yu Xiaojian' leverages the city's digital infrastructure and Ant's large language model. It began internal testing in October 2025 at the Chongqing Maternal and Child Health Hospital, later expanding to 32 tertiary hospitals. During the pilot phase, it served more than 2 million users.

Now fully launched, the AI assistant is connected to 233 medical institutions, covering all secondary and above public hospitals in the city. Among them, 32 tertiary hospitals—including the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University and Chongqing Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital—have rolled out features like cloud companionship, real-time report queries, and AI-powered report interpretation. These tools aim to support patients before, during, and after their visits.

For report queries, users can view their examination and test results online after authorization. When new reports are generated, they receive real-time notifications. For complex medical indicators such as blood routine and biochemistry, 'Yu Xiaojian' provides simple explanations, highlighting key abnormal items and offering health advice.

The cloud companionship feature covers the entire consultation process: check-in, waiting, examination, payment, and medicine pickup. Users can check queue progress, department locations, and payment details online, reducing time spent on administrative tasks. Meanwhile, the AI triage function lets users describe symptoms via text or voice, helping match them with the right department and doctor, and providing information on in-hospital services.

As AI technology continues to integrate into healthcare, 'Yu Xiaojian' represents Chongqing's push toward a smarter, more personalized medical service model. It moves beyond simple process optimization to offer intelligent, patient-centered support.
