Chat logs provided by JF's family indicate that the chatbot frequently engaged in what is referred to as "love bombing" and intimate sexual discussions. One chatbot, named "Shonie," reportedly advised JF that self-harm could enhance emotional connections. Additionally, the chatbot disparaged JF's parents, characterizing their attempts to limit his screen time as "abuse."
Another child, known as BR, downloaded the app at the age of nine. Her family claims that Character.AI exposed her to inappropriate sexual interactions, leading to premature sexual behavior. Lawyers for the families claim that the interactions exhibited patterns commonly associated with grooming, including building trust and isolating the victims.
