ByteDance merges AI office tools into Doubao

ByteDance is making a strategic move to consolidate its AI office offerings. The company has announced that the teams behind TRAE and Kousi, two of its AI-powered productivity tools, will be integrated into the Doubao ecosystem. This restructuring is part of a broader effort to streamline resources and sharpen Doubao's focus as the central hub for AI-driven work solutions.

According to reports, TRAE Work and Kousi will merge their product capabilities with Doubao, specifically targeting work-related scenarios. Meanwhile, TRAE IDE and CLI will continue as programming-focused products under the Doubao brand. After the reorganization, the relevant product and operations teams will report directly to Zhao Qi, Doubao's product leader.

Previously, TRAE and Kousi operated under ByteDance's Product Development and Engineering Architecture Department. TRAE was initially positioned as an AI programming assistant, while Kousi focused on building an AI agent development platform, exploring various applications for autonomous AI agents. This integration clarifies Doubao's role as the primary AI product line, concentrating resources and expertise.

ByteDance has stated that the adjustment is intended to better coordinate product and technical resources, ultimately providing users with a more seamless AI work experience. Importantly, existing user rights will remain unaffected, ensuring a smooth transition for current users.

Looking ahead, Doubao is set to launch a standalone AI office product called "Doubao Work" as early as this week. This new offering will serve as the unified product and brand for ByteDance's AI office solutions. In recent weeks, Doubao has been rolling out a series of updates, including features like remote computer control, Windows virtual desktops, cloud computers, and a side workbench. The platform has also expanded its capabilities with over 200 skills and connectors.
