Apple's Smart Home Gamble: Siri AI Takes on Amazon and Google
Apple recently threw open the doors to your living room with a launch event called "Welcome Home." The message was clear: after years of watching Amazon and Google dominate smart homes, Apple is finally ready to play. At the heart of it all is a rebuilt Siri AI, built on Apple Foundation Models, promising deeper personalization and conversations that actually feel natural.
HomeView: Apple's First Smart Display
The star of the show is the Apple HomeView, a 7-inch Liquid Retina display perched on an arched speaker base. A stainless steel hinge lets you tilt it just right. It recognizes up to six faces, serving up personalized widgets, calendars, and even private messages when your iPhone is nearby and unlocked. Shared albums and music stay open for everyone. At $299, it comes in silver, starlight white, rose pink, and space gray. Pre-orders are open in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, India, and New Zealand, with a November 13 release. Singapore gets it October 15, but the EU is left out for now due to iOS policy on Siri AI.

HomePod mini: Same Sphere, New Guts
Three years since the last update, the second-gen HomePod mini keeps its spherical shape but adds the S10 chip for computational audio. Pair four of them with the new Apple TV 4K and you get a four-channel surround system that calibrates itself. It doubles as a Mac speaker and a home hub, and can even recognize smoke alarms and announce visitors. Yours for $149 in pink, green, blue, white, or midnight black, starting October 30. A note: Siri AI won't work at launch, but a future update will fix that.
Apple TV 4K: Siri Without the Remote
The fourth-gen Apple TV 4K puts Siri AI front and center on your TV. Inside, the A19 chip boosts CPU performance by up to 50% and doubles GPU power, plus a dedicated AV1 decoder. The remote gains a "Precise Search" feature. But the real trick? Three far-field microphones let you wake Siri without touching the remote. Ask follow-up questions, and results pop up in small windows without interrupting your show. $299 (or $49.83/month), pre-orders live, official release November 13.
Apple Home Collection: Smart Gadgets Galore
Apple teamed up with LG and Schneider Electric for a series of smart devices that connect instantly and live in the native Home app.
- LG Smart Security Camera: Wired video doorbell ($249.95), floodlight camera ($399.95), outdoor accessory ($299.95), and indoor camera ($199.95). Up to 2.5K recording, person and pet recognition, and free 10-day history via iCloud+.
- LG Smart Door Lock: $349.95, with ultra-wideband tech that unlocks as you approach. Works offline, too.
- Smart Thermostats and Sensors: Co-developed with LG and Schneider, featuring "Adaptive Temperature" adjustments.
