Apple's New Home Push: Siri AI Takes Center Stage
Apple held a launch event called "Welcome Home" this week, and it wasn't just about pretty hardware. The company is finally making a serious play for the smart home—a space Amazon and Google have ruled for years. The centerpiece? A completely rebuilt Siri AI, built on Apple's own Foundation Models, promising conversations that feel less like barking commands and more like chatting with a helpful roommate.
Here's the rundown of what Apple unveiled.
Apple HomeView: The $299 Command Center
The star of the show is the HomeView, Apple's first smart display. It's a 7-inch Liquid Retina screen perched on an arched speaker base, connected by a stainless steel hinge so you can tilt it just right. Facial recognition for up to six people means it knows who's walking by—and serves up personalized widgets, messages, and calendars (as long as your iPhone or iPad is nearby and unlocked). Visitors get access to shared albums and music, but not your private stuff.
At $299, it comes in silver, starlight white, rose pink, and space gray. There's also a wall-mount version for the same price. Pre-orders are live in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, India, and New Zealand, with a November 13 release. Singapore gets it October 15. One catch: due to EU policies on Siri AI, it's not available there yet.

HomePod mini (2nd Gen): Small Sphere, Big Sound
After three years, the HomePod mini finally gets a refresh. It keeps the spherical look but swaps in an S10 chip for computational audio that tweaks dynamics and volume in real time. Pair four of them with the new Apple TV 4K and you've got a four-channel surround system that auto-calibrates to your room (speakers must be paired).
It doubles as a Mac speaker and home hub, and it can recognize smoke or carbon monoxide alarms and announce visitors' faces. At $149, it comes in pink, green, blue, white, and midnight black, out October 30. Note: Siri AI won't be there at launch—it's coming in a future update.
Apple TV 4K (4th Gen): Siri Gets a Big Screen
The new Apple TV 4K brings Siri AI to your TV with a full-screen interface. Under the hood, the A19 chip delivers up to 50% faster CPU performance and double the GPU power, plus a dedicated AV1 decoder. The remote adds a "Precise Search" feature for finding stuff.
Three far-field microphones let you wake Siri without grabbing the remote—and you can ask follow-up questions with context. Results pop up in a small window, so they don't block what you're watching. At $299 (or $49.83/month), pre-orders are open now, shipping November 13.
Apple Home Collection: Smart Gadgets Galore
Apple teamed up with LG and Schneider Electric for a lineup of smart home devices that connect instantly and live in the Home app. LG's security cameras range from a $199.95 indoor cam to a $399.95 floodlight cam, all supporting 2.5K recording, person and pet detection, and free 10-day iCloud+ history. There's also a $349.95 smart door lock with UWB auto-unlock and offline use. Smart thermostats and sensors from LG and Schneider round out the collection, with an "Adaptive Temperature" feature. These start rolling out in December; US Apple Stores will also offer ADT professional installation.
