Apple has officially rolled out iOS 27, and it's shaping up to be one of the most substantial iPhone updates in recent memory. The new software keeps the Liquid Glass design but injects a hefty dose of AI, especially into Siri. There are also plenty of tweaks for system apps, new parental controls, and—good news for those with older phones—a noticeable performance bump.

Siri's Glow-Up: Now It Can See and Do More

Remember when Siri felt like a digital assistant that only half-listened? Those days might be over. With iOS 27, Siri taps into Apple Intelligence to pull information from your device and actually do things. It can search the web, understand what's on your screen, and interact within supported apps. So, if you're staring at a restaurant recommendation in a message, you can just ask Siri to make a reservation—no app-switching required.

But here's the rub: the new Siri AI demands serious horsepower. You'll need an iPhone 15 Pro or newer, and some features are exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro or iPhone Air. Language and region restrictions apply too, so not everyone gets the full experience right away.

A Fresh Coat of Paint for Your Interface

Liquid Glass, Apple's translucent design language, now comes with more customization. You can adjust transparency and tweak menu and navigation bar contrast to your liking. The lock screen gets some love too: photo-generated fill expansion, wallpapers created with Image Playground, and a new compact clock layout. And for widget fans, the home screen now supports larger widgets—because who doesn't want more information at a glance?

System Apps Level Up

The Photos app is getting a suite of AI-powered tools: Clean Up, Extend, and Reframe. You can also save a single frame from a video as a photo, add keywords, and rate images. Safari introduces theme organization, Resume Browsing, and Notify Me. Apple Music and Weather get updates as well. The Password app can now automatically update risky passwords, Calendar and Reminders support natural language creation, and Phone adds Call Context. FaceTime call quality improves, and AirPods and CarPlay pick up new features too.

Older iPhones Get a Speed Boost

Perhaps the best news? Apple claims significant performance optimizations for older models. If you're rocking an iPhone 11 or later (or a second-gen iPhone SE), you can install iOS 27. While you might miss out on the flashiest AI tricks, your phone should feel snappier overall.
