Alibaba's Qoder Evolves: From Coding Tool to AI Agent Workstation for All

Alibaba has officially launched the new Qoder, marking a significant evolution from its original AI programming IDE to a comprehensive intelligent agent workspace. The announcement, made on August 27, positions Qoder as a tool "centered on coding capabilities and designed for everyone," signaling a shift toward broader accessibility and usability.

Since its global release in August 2025, Qoder IDE has amassed over 6 million users and served more than 100,000 enterprises. This new version introduces three fundamental shifts in how people work: the focus moves from "code engineering" to "intelligent agent tasks," the work style transitions from "personal production" to "delegation and acceptance," and the user base expands from professional programmers to include product managers, operations staff, and data analysts.

At its core, the new Qoder leverages the Harness long-chain execution platform, enabling an autonomous closed-loop of "read—modify—verify—iterate." This means the tool can handle cross-file edits, run tests, self-correct based on real results, and even maintain long-term memory across sessions. Security has been bolstered with hierarchical permissions and a tool whitelist, ensuring sensitive operations require explicit authorization.

On the model front, Qoder integrates top-tier domestic and international models, with deep integration of the Qwen series. It also features Auto intelligent routing to balance effectiveness, speed, and cost, ensuring users get the best performance without breaking the bank.

The product offers two entry points: programming mode and general mode. The former is tailored for developers, while the latter empowers non-technical users to create prototypes, manage data, and troubleshoot without writing a single line of code. With over 40 connectors, 70+ plugins, and 20K+ skills, Qoder connects seamlessly to code repositories, project management tools, cloud services, and internal systems. It even supports Browser Use and Computer Use, allowing interaction with real web pages and desktops.

One of the most exciting updates is the shift from "you drive it" to "it reminds you." The interface now includes a desktop resident feature and voice activation, making the tool more proactive and intuitive.

To celebrate the launch, Alibaba is offering promotional deals: individual users can claim 5 days of 2500 Qwen Credits until September 1, and enterprise versions enjoy a 50% discount using the Qwen3.8 series. Both the international version (qoder.com) and the Chinese version (qoder.cn) are now available.
