72% of Businesses Prioritize Ease of Use in AI Tool Selection

Businesses are investing heavily in Artificial Intelligence (AI), with a recent CIO report highlighting a $250 million commitment despite challenges in demonstrating Return on Investment (ROI). While leaders aim to boost productivity, integrating new technologies often requires restructuring applications, updating processes, and motivating employees to adapt. QuickBlox CEO Nate MacLeitch surveyed 136 executives to uncover the realities of AI adoption in 2025, focusing on priorities, concerns, and information sources.

The survey found that ease of use and integration (72.8%) are the primary factors driving AI tool selection. However, privacy and security emerged as the top concern for 60.3% of respondents. This raises questions about whether security is being adequately addressed amidst the focus on usability.

Advancements in human-computer interaction are enabling businesses to automate tasks, optimize processes, and make data-driven decisions more efficiently. API-driven AI and microservices allow for modular integration into existing systems. The rise of no-code solutions, automated machine learning (auto-ML), and multimodal virtual assistants with voice control is accelerating the development of customized applications without requiring extensive AI expertise.

While data privacy is a leading concern during the selection phase, only 20.6% cited it as a major issue during integration. Instead, integration costs were identified as the biggest challenge by 41.2% of leaders. When asked about additional support needs, "more affordable options" ranked lowest, with leaders prioritizing training and education (56.6%), customized solutions (54.4%), and technical support (54.4%).

External information sources play a critical role in helping leaders identify trustworthy AI tools. The survey revealed that LinkedIn and X are the most trusted platforms for research (54.4%), likely due to their extensive professional networks. Despite concerns about misinformation on social media, decision-makers rely on online research, expert consultations, and vendor demonstrations to make informed choices.

Regarding integration challenges, limited in-house expertise (26.5%) was the second most cited concern after costs. With generative AI and automation on the rise, 87% of leaders anticipate that at least a quarter of their workforce will require retraining. Businesses must also focus on regulatory compliance and develop AI governance strategies emphasizing explainability, fairness, robustness, transparency, and privacy.

Effective communication and evidence of tangible benefits are essential for fostering team buy-in during AI adoption. Creating a psychologically safe environment where employees feel comfortable sharing ideas and feedback can drive successful implementation.
